Try Cognitive Shuffling
Here is a simple mind game that can gently bore you to sleep.
To play, you think of a word. For each letter of the word, try to think of as many new words as you can that begin with the letter. Then move on to the next letter.
It’s challenging, but the stakes are not high. You are playing to engage your mind in something other than worrying. It’s a simple game.
It’s Easy to Play
You have to think, but you aren’t thinking of anything that demands your attention or concern.
This simple technique was conceived by a psychologist who had trouble sleeping when he wa a student. After getting his degree, he decided to study the technique. His findings have been positive.
His name is Luc Beaudoin. You can read more about Cognitive Shuffling here.
Worked for Me!
I’ve tried it. Last night I woke up at the cursed 3 am and immediately feared not being able to get back to sleep.
I thought of a word, “important.” I began to think up words that begin with I, eg: idea, interest, etc. and M, muscle, microphone, etc.
That’s all I remember.
