People generally eat the same things for breakfast.
Some people eat a really good breakfast, and others not so much.
I’ve been thinking, “If you are going to eat the same thing every day, why don’t do something good for yourself and eat a good breakfast?”
Beans are on the breakfast menu all over the world. They are especially prominent in the Blue Zones. Since Blue Zone folks are the longest lived in the world, why don’t we do what they do?
Instead of a bagel with jam, coffee and a vitamin pill (or pills), why not upgrade to a nutritional breakfast that is probably more powerful than a vitamin pill?
Pills can’t provide you with fiber.
Fiber is food for beneficial microbes in our guts. Science is showing that we can measure our own health by the health of the microbes.
Plus beans have a vitamin and mineral profile that is hard to beat.

Beans are also loaded with protein, but if you are concerned as are so many these days with protein, add an egg or two. It’s delicious.
You do not have to eat a lot of beans. In fact, you should not eat a lot of beans to start. Too many and you will bring unwanted trips to the bathroom and you might be saying things like, “Beans just don’t agree with me.”
Solution: start slow. Maybe a tablespoon full. Then build up gradually like an additional tablespoon a week. If that doesn’t work for you, every two weeks.
The longer you keep it up, the healthier your biome will become.
The biome is the colony of bacteria that live in your gut, mainly the large intestine.
Beans are a great prebiotic. Prebiotics is the name that applies to food for gut microbes.
The more beans are available, the more beneficial flora will thrive.
Scientists tell us that there arbe around 100 trillion organisms in our gut. Some are very good for our health. Others not so much.
An un-nourished biome is like a field of weeds.

A Well Nourished Biome Is Like a Well Tended Vegetable Garden
Beans are a prebiotic. They are great food for the beneficial bacteria in your gut. Instead of a gnarly weed garden, beans can nurture a healthful garden of beneficial plants.
But start your beans for breakfast routine slowly. Too many beans too quickly can lead to discomfort. I repeat myself on purpose.
