Basic Pursuits

A few months ago, I traveled with one of my sons. He showed me a tiny, black plastic vial that he said contained shaving oil. "You should try it," he said.

I did and loved it. Soft whiskers and my razor slid like a sled. I headed for the drug store and bought my own black vial. It was nearly $5.00 for 1/2 ounce. Wow. Someone's making money. That's $80.00 per cup.

For that kind of outlay I was inspired to try a better way. My first try was the most successful. Olive oil. Eat your heart out Thomas Edison.

I like olive oil better than the five-buck stuff. Of course, I'm sure that countless ancient Greeks and Romans are laughing in Hades, saying, "Duh!" They probably shaved with olive oil for centuries. For my money and by the hair of my chinny chin chin, no one has found any better.
